According to the 2005 study conducted by the Nevada Women's Fund "The Status of Women and Girls in Nevada":

  • "Of all households in Nevada, less than one quarter consist of the traditional structure of a husband and wife with one or more children."
  • "Nevada mothers continue to comprise over half of the work force, although their percentage declines when children are younger."
  • "Nevada's service-oriented industries of gambling and tourism hire over one in four women workers."
  • "Nevada women have a higher percentage in service occupations compared to the national average; conversely, a higher proportion of women in the national average work in management and professional jobs."
  • In Nevada, "36.5 percent of households headed by a female with no husband present with related children under five years of age have a total household income below the poverty level."
  • "According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute (2004), Nevada ranked first nationally for preganancy rates in teens between 15 and 19 in 2001."
  • "In 2001, almost half (46.8 percent) of Nevada women indicated their mental health was "not good" at least one day in the past 30 days."
  • "Women are disproportionately victims of intimate-partner abuse and elder-abuse crimes and the number of crimes cimmitted by women is on the increase."
  • "Nevada ranks fourth highest among the states in the female victim homicide rate. Of the Nevada homicides in which the relationship between the victim and the offender could be established, all 27 of the 27 female victims were murdered by male nonstrangers."
  • "Women in Nevada are about ten times as likely to be victims of domestic abuse as men, and those ages 18 to 44 are the most vulnerable."
