Women & Children's Center of the Sierra is always in need of financial support - of course, we are a charity!
WACCS accepts donations of DIAPERS for distribution to needy families.
We are also very grateful for women who can give a few hours per week to volunteer in our non-profit store, "Des Idées Nouvelles, New Ideas". The store is a serene, charming place to spend a few hours helping the charity help vulnerable women and children. Training is given in basic retail skills, as needed.
WACCS needs volunteer class facilitators and mentors for families working to rebuild their lives.

ANNUAL APPEAL LETTER
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your previous support of WACCS. We thought you might like to know what we have achieved with your generous donation.
Although only one and one half years old, WACCS has accomplished a great deal. Diaper Bank now has over 900 members and serves more than 450 children on a bi-weekly basis. Classes and support groups are full to overflowing and we have waiting lists for several second groups. We have 6 women working with us on a daily basis in the Community Work Experience program. We are bursting at the seams of our center on Vassar St, and more women and children come to us every day for help. We have quickly become a valuable and trusted local resource, and receive referrals from many local agencies on a regular basis.
WACCS works intensively with a number of families on public assistance benefits, to help them in the long-term rebuilding of their lives. In 2010 we will strengthen this core work with the introduction of “Women In Nevada Growing Stronger”, funded by a very generous grant from Nevada Women’s Fund. As such a young organization, we are greatly honored to receive this grant. This “WINGS Program” will teach vulnerable women the fundamentals needed to transition from living in poverty to creating personal, financial and family security for the long term: to help families escape benefit-dependence and create independent, stable lives, permanently. The program is based on work being done with great success in communities throughout the country, and will support families over an extended, 12 - 24 month period, to ensure enough time to rebuild lives with firm foundations.
We will empower parents to break the cycle of poverty, so their children will be empowered to achieve higher in school, reach their potential, and create stable lives for the next generation. Healthier, stronger families will mean a healthier, stronger community.
Now we ask for your help. The grant from Nevada Women’s Fund is a great vote of confidence in WACCS, but we are still a young organization and the economic downturn has hit us as hard as so many others. We struggle to meet our obligations. Please help us to become self-sustaining and practice what we preach to our vulnerable clients! Even the smallest amount will help us continue this very impactful and important work. If you can make a monthly commitment, that will also be greatly appreciated. Our board has committed to match all funds raised up to $4,000, so your contribution will be worth double up to that amount!
Please send your tax-deductible donation in the enclosed envelop or call us at 348-9565 and we will be happy to help you set up a monthly payment. Or visit us at 148 Vassar St, Reno – we would love to show you around. Also, don’t forget our non-profit gift store, “Des Idees Nouvelles” for your holiday shopping. And our coffee shop will be open in early November, creating new jobs for some of our clients.
With many thanks from all of us at WACCS, and our very vulnerable clients,
Thank you, thank you.
Kate High,
Executive Director WACCS and NNDB
