Mission Statement
The Women & Children's Center of the Sierras is dedicated to providing education, job training, resources and support to help women escape or avoid poverty and provide a better life for their families. The goal is to enable these women to become contributing members of the community by offering a transition from public assistance to paid employement.
Who We Are
The Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra (WACCS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit started in March 5, 2008. WACCS is located at 255 West Peckham Lane, Suite B and our Hope Cafe & Gift Shop is located at 555 South Virginia Street.
We focus on ensuring that women struggling with or facing poverty are provided with the tools and support they need to become self-sufficient. Our Client Success Program involves personalized case-care including referrals and coordination of services. Clients are assigned to our Client Services Manager, who serves as their advocate. The Client Services Manager also assists clients in achieving independence and maximizing the quality of life for them and their families. During their time with the Client Services Manager, clients build a network of support systems and have increased access to needed resources. The Client Services Manager also organizes classes and support groups to ensure clients are building their personal and professional skills.
Our current strategic planning efforts include a renewed focus on anti-poverty education to help women in our area create a better future for themselves and their families. The recent relocation of our Center and separate relocation of Hope Cafe has allowed us to streamline the services we offer. We now have more space for the restaurant and retail at one location and expanded room for the Northern Nevada Diaper Bank, larger classrooms and added space for group work and individual counseling sessions at the Center. We can now focus more than ever on our Life and Employability Skills training, which prepares women for job excellence wherever they find employment.
